I hold a PhD in economics from Washington University, and am based in Winnipeg, Canada. I have been a Guest or Visiting Professor at the Central Bank of Brazil, University of Western Ontario , National Economics University (Hanoi), and Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg. Prior to academia I held positions in the Accelerated Economist Program (now known as the Advanced Policy Analyst Program) as well as the Department of Finance of the Canadian government.

My research interests include macroeconomics, development, institutions, defence economics, and more generally projects that allow me to work with interesting people. My most recent work has appeared in Economic Modelling, Defence and Peace Economics, Southern Economic Journal, and the Journal of Economics, Race, and Policy.

I currently serve on the executive of the Canadian Development Economics Study Group, co-organize the annual Defence and Security Economics Workshop, and serve on the editorial boards of Defence and Peace Economics and the Journal of Economics, Race, and Policy.
